Autoimmune Conditions

What Does Your Immune System Do?

Your immune system is designed to protect your body, and every part within it. It is normally able to recognize what is YOU and what is NOT YOU, aka foreign. In autoimmune conditions, you may find a hyperactive immune system that does not abide by the normal checks and balances.

Immune System Conditions

In conditions such as systemic or discoid lupus erythematosusvitiligoalopecia areata, or bullous pemphigoid, there is a specific entity that your immune system is seeing as foreign. Some conditions are less specific but also reflect an over-active immune system, such as psoriasisor lichen planus. Genetics plays a strong role, but there may be other factors, such as medications, that may be triggering your condition or impeding the resolution.
